Fresh strawberry milk is a very popular drink in Korea – because it’s extremely simple, and it’s actually made with REAL fresh strawberries and no artificial colours/sweeteners added.
I absolutely love strawberries, and whenever it’s the summertime, I get very excited because it means strawberry season is back again. I went strawberry picking a few days ago (it was my first time) and picked some ripe and bright red strawberries. They were juicy, sweet, and just perfect. I feel like strawberries are always the sweetest during the summer. The weather was scorching, but it was fun and worth it for those strawberries.
I just love it when drinks are made with the REAL THING, meaning no artificial colours/sweeteners added. This is why this strawberry milk totally fits into that category. It’s also not as sweet and unhealthy as those strawberry milk drinks that you would typically see at the grocery stores/convenience stores, as we are using REAL ingredients here.
We’ll be making our own fresh strawberry syrup here, and mixing it with fresh milk and additional fresh strawberries. Mix it all up and enjoy!
Ingredients
Strawberry Syrup:
- 300g of fresh strawberries (stems removed and chopped)
- 4 tbsp sugar
- 1 tbsp lemon juice
To Serve:
- Strawberry syrup
- 4-5 strawberries (chopped)
- Milk of choice
Instructions
Strawberry Syrup:
1. Mix together the chopped strawberries, with the sugar and lemon juice in a wide dish. Mash the strawberries until it becomes mushy and the juices come out.
2. Add the mushed strawberries to a saucepan and cook over medium-low heat. Mix the mixture continuously to prevent it from burning. Bring to a simmer and then turn off the heat. Let cool completely. (You can also do this a day before, and the syrup can last in the fridge for up to one week).
To Serve:
Add 2-4 tbsp of the strawberry syrup in a glass, followed by fresh chopped strawberries, and milk. Stir and enjoy!
